History of Parks Day

In 2007, the City of Coeur d'Alene completed it's Parks Master Plan. During the process it was revealed that a large percentage of area residents weren't aware of the incredible park system Coeur d'Alene has to offer. In order to help area residents learn more about each park and what activities are available, the Parks Master Plan Committee volunteered to perform as the Parks Day Celebration Committee and plan an annual event to bring citizens out to enjoy our parks.
It was decided early on that this event was going to include food for all visiters and demonstrations of the different activities at each park. Since the Coeur d'Alene Park System includes 24 parks and more planned for the near future, it was decided to highlight different parks each year. The first year Bluegrass Park , Ramsey Park and Riverstone Park were highlighted with trail rides on the new Prairie Trail linking the three parks. The second year featured Shadduck Lane Park, Cherry Hill Park and Canfield Mountain Open Space. The third year will feature Sunshine Meadows Parks and The Landings Park.
